Back to News

Do you like pancakes? If you do, then Pancake Day is the perfect day for you! Pancake Day, also called Shrove Tuesday, is a special day celebrated in many countries. People make and eat delicious pancakes with their friends and family.

Here’s a bit more about this fun tradition!

The origins of Pancake Day

Pancake Day has a long history. It comes from an old Christian tradition. Long ago, people gave up rich foods like eggs, milk, and sugar for 40 days before Easter. This time was called Lent. The day before Lent started, people used all their eggs and milk to make pancakes. That is why we celebrate Pancake Day!

The name “Shrove Tuesday” comes from the word “shrive,” which means to confess sins. In the past, people would go to church on this day and confess their sins before Lent began. Today, most people just enjoy eating pancakes!

How people celebrate Pancake Day today

Today, Pancake Day is mostly about fun and food! People make pancakes and eat them with different toppings. Some like sugar and lemon, while others enjoy chocolate, syrup, or fruit.

In some places, there are pancake races. In these races, people run while flipping pancakes in a frying pan! This tradition started in England. The most famous pancake race happens in a town called Olney. People wear aprons and run while tossing pancakes in the air. It is a funny and exciting event!

Schools, restaurants, and families all join in the fun. Some people even try to make the biggest pancake or flip a pancake the highest in the air. Have you ever flipped a pancake?
